Autumn Addition: Breezy winds & beautiful sunsets!

A perfect Kidd’s Beach sunrise, M.R.”

We are back again with a bang. Welcome to our April Autumn edition!

A big thank you to those supporting the Kidd’s Beach website! Changes are in motion, and KBRRA has kindly trained a group of individuals who now have the skills to create exposure, keep up to date with news, and create new and more accessible avenues for all to enjoy the website and all that it offers.

As mentioned above, we are exploring new avenues to ensure our village, its residents and the businesses who support it are given exposure at both local, provincial and national levels. We hope to gain enough accreditation for the website through work with Google and its many platforms. As it has so much to offer, such as business listings, the December Holiday program and many more, we hope in the future to be the first local website on your search engine.

Let’s just keep in mind Rome wasn’t built in a day, and the Eastern Cape is unfortunately not considered the Silicon Valley of Africa. So, as we continue to create a more efficient website, if you have any expertise or advice you would like to offer, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the KBRRA on their Facebook group.

1. Safety and Security
Firstly, thank you to the KB Patrol Group and the hard work of all their volunteers. Before we begin, some wisdom from Edmund Burke,” The only necessary thing for evil to triumph in the world is good people doing nothing”. On that note, a few points were raised by our security members. Burglaries and petty crime are increasing in the old part of the village. We believe that syndicates are dropping off scouts daily to look for opportunities. Unfortunately, many homes are easy targets due to homeowners’ lack of security and complacency. Empty houses and homes without security systems are more likely to be broken into.

We must start taking responsibility for our security, as burglars are always out there looking for targets. Unfortunately, the SAPS and Red Alert can’t always be present to prevent these burglaries from taking place. As you all know, we have established our own patrol group of volunteers from our community, and they can start patrolling within 48 hours if needed. We have been in discussions with the SAPS Information and Red Alert, which have been very encouraging.

Here are a few suggestions to consider:
1. Be observant and report any suspicious activity

2. Keep emergency numbers handy

3. Ensure your home is correctly numbered so emergency services can quickly locate your address

4. Install outdoor lights

5. When you go away on holiday, leave your key with your neighbour or a trusted friend to check in

6. Close all curtains at night when you are watching TV, as burglars like to see where valuable items are placed

7. Make sure that all doors are locked, and windows closed before you go to bed

General
That’s enough about what we are doing. Into Autumn, we go. The coral trees are beginning to drop their leaves, the Shad begin to bite, and so does the wind! April 1st is the official beginning of Autumn in South Africa Tripadvisor.  Here’s some valuable (or useless) information for your next braai, tea party or coffee after the next Parkrun.

Small animals that hibernate usually enter their burrows in April. The birds fly back northward and settle down with their new families. The bees and butterflies bunker in their cocoons, dreaming of Spring’s sweet nectar and flowers. It is planting time in some parts of the world; in others, it is the harvest season. The birth flowers for April are the sweet pea and the daisy (more fun facts).

April was the second month in the early Roman calendar but became the fourth when the ancient Romans started using January as the first month. April is named for the Greek goddess of love, Aphrodite. The name for April originally came from Aprilis, which means to open.

April is the month of humour, so laugh it up!
